Benefits of Anulma viloma pranayama

Negative thinking is replaced by positive thoughts. Calms your mind. Cleansing all your innumerable Nadis, which makes the body healthy lustrous and strong. Cure for rheumatism, gout, diseases pertaining to urinary and reproductive organs are cured.

How to do Anulom Vilom pranayama

  1. Sit on flat surface folding your legs. You can sit on soft mat or blanket spread on the ground.

  2. Keep your spine straight and close your eyes.

  3. Keep the right palm(Inner surface of your hand starting from wrist) on your right knee

  4. And then left palm on your left knee while in sitting position.

  5. anuloma viloma pranayama to be done by closing the nostrils one after another.

  6. Close the right side nostril with the right hand thumb.

  7. And inhale slowly through the left nostril till the lungs are filled with fresh air.

  8. Close the left nostril with the second and third fingers and Open the right nostril and exhale through it.

  9. Then keep closing the left nostril inhale through your right nostril.

  10. Closing your right nostril exhale from left nostril.

  11. Repeat this exercise slowly in the beginning and increase the speed with practice.

  12. After a good long time practice inhale with as much force as possible for you, then exhale also forcefully.

  13. While doing this Pranayama mentally chant the mantra OM throughout the exercise of anuloma viloma pranayama.

Duration of practicing anuloma viloma pranayama

Anuloma viloma pranayama should be done for 5 to 10 minutes daily.

When to do anuloma viloma pranayama

You can do Anulom Vilom in morning or evening or both time BUT empty stomach. Pranayama should be done after your usual morning functions like cleansing of mouth, evacuation of bowels etc. If you do it in evening there should be a gap of 4/5 hours in between your afternoon meal and time you start Anulom vilom pranayama. In morning do not eat any thing before doing this pranayama.
