Bipolar disorder since 7-8 years

hello my mother was diagnosed with bipolar disorder 7-8 years back(her age - 41,nation- india)she had received allopathic aid during previous attacks. This year (after 3 years) she has suffered through manic attack, my family is giving her allopathic medicines, but as we all know these medicines have lots of side effects and i m not convinced with their way of treatment. So please suggest any safer way of treating BPD in longer run.
