judygodchild218, 31 July 2012 21:20

I am told that Chyawanprash improves digestion power and promotes proper growth and body nourishment.

Does consuming Chyawanprash everyday help in weight loss, if you control your food habits?

Doctor's Ayurvedic Advice:-

Hello,

There are several ways as to bring down weight. As mentioned, your weight and height categorizes you under obese section which is not good for health.

Here you will have to undergo medications and external treatment as well. Here are a few of my suggestions.

  • You can approach any ayurvedic center near you and opt for Udwarthana therapy. This therapy shall be done for nearly 14 to 21 days. This would be the first line of treatment as to bring down weight.

  • Consume medicines as directed by your consultant physician during your treatment period.

  • Following this you have to practice regular exercise or daily walk ranging between 20 minutes to an hour.

  • Divya Medohara Guggulu is an excellent remedy as to bring down weight. This medicine shall be taken at a dosage of 1 tab twice daily an hour before food.

  • Reduce the amount of food taken daily. This can be done by leaving a portion of your stomach empty after each meal.

You have to note that you can expect only a loss of 2 kg each month which is the best and healthy way as to cut down weight.

As your BMI is 32, you need to take medicines along with some lifestyle changes. The effect and duration of medicines to reduce weight varies in each person. It is a very slow process and that helps you to have some lasting benefits. How about your diet and did you do exercise? Medicine alone will not help to reduce weight. But you can reduce 2kgs in a month with medicines, diet and exercise.

Medicines like Varunadi Kasayam - 15ml with 60ml of boiled and warm water before food twice daily, Divya Medohar Vati are effective which can be taken for 3months and review. Powder massage known as Udwartanam can be done in Ayurvedic hospital which will help to reduce the excess fat.

Eat little and early at night. Include green tea, plantain stem, horse gram, garlic, ginger, cinnamon, bittergourd, bottle gourd in your diet. Yogasanas like paschimottasana, bhujangasana, dhanurasana, matsyasana, utkadasana helps to reduce weight if practised regularly.

I am not sure about boost but avoid full cream milk and have toned milk instead. Light meal in dinner is OK. Also try exercising a bit, Yoga asana such as Halasana and vajrasana are good.

Thank you for your reply Dr. Guru.

I am 141cms tall and weigh 49 Kgs. I am overweight by 9 Kilos as per a gynaecologist who I consulted.

Currently, my diet comprises of the following:

Morning - 1 glass of hot milk with 1 teaspoon of boost and 1 teaspoon of sugar.

Lunch - 3 rotis and a vegetable and a dal.

Dinner - 1 glass of hot milk with 1 teaspoon of boost and 1 teaspoon of sugar.

On weekends, I eat 2 or three biscuits at 5:00 PM and when I do that I do not anything for dinner.

Every day I walk 1 kilometer.

I have been at 49 Kgs for a long time and have not been able to lose much weight.

From the past one week I have started taking a half teaspoon of chyawanprash while maintaining this same diet.

If I maintain this diet, will I be able to lose weight?

Are there any other remedies you can suggest?

In summers one need to be careful about the quantity of Chyawanprash he/she takes. Dosage also depends upon what type and brand of chyawanpraha you are using. Read the directions on the label or ask your physician.

For weight loss right diet needs to be followed.

  • Avoid fatty, oily, greasy and fried food.
  • Do not use Ghee or butter in excess.
  • Have fiber rich diet such as salads, vegetables and fruits.
  • Drink lot of water.
  • Finish your dinner before 8 PM which should be continued with a 1 km walk.
  • Do vajrasana after food for 5 minutes.
