Pranayama is simple breathing exercises which anyone irrespective of age and health condition can perform easily. The results of pranayama are miraculous. It can cure almost all kind of diseases related to human health disorders. Doing pranayama oxygenates the whole body and replenish human body and soul with divine energy. It is very beneficial in spiritual enlightenment and meditation. Pranayama techniques were discovered by sage Patanjali thousands of years back in India. Pranayama's positive results have also been tested and verified by scientific researches on human body.

As Yoga is mainly about asana and mudras, which involves practicing various positions and stretching, pranayama is mainly done in sitting position and practicing different ways of breathing.

Please spend sometime learning these life saving breathing techniques below.

Doctor's Ayurvedic Advice:-

Ring worm infection is a skin infection caused by fungi. It has an affinity to develop in the buttocks. The fungus settles in the warm and moist places in the body. The rash appears like a ring and it starts spreading if not treated properly. It can be present in both buttocks. The patches will be itchy, scaly and with blisters.

Medicines like Aragwadadi kasayam - 15ml with 60ml of warm water twice daily before food, Kaisora guggulu, Triphala churnam - 2tsp with warm water can be taken daily for a month and reviewed. Gandha thailam can be applied externally.

Eat healthy food. Avoid old refrigerated foods, fermented foods, excess sugar and deep fried foods. Try to keep the area clean and dry. Maintain personal hygeine as it is contagious.

Before beginning pranayama

Sit on flat surface folding your both the legs. You can sit on any soft mat or blanket spread on the ground. There are various types of yoga mats available in the market, you can use one of them as well. Keep your spine fully straight and close your eyes. Keep the right palm on your right knee & left palm on your left knee while in sitting position.

Timings for Pranayama

You can do Pranayama in the morning or evening or both time but you should do it empty stomach. It should be done after your usual morning functions like cleansing of mouth, evacuation of bowels etc. If you do it in evening there should be a gap of 5 hrs. in between your afternoon meal & time you start pranayama. In morning do not eat any thing before doing pranayama.

Bhastrika Pranayama


 

Benefits - Bhastrika Pranayama calms mind and buildup peace. Lungs become strong. Heart & head gets adequate quantity of fresh air. Diseases like asthma, cough, cold, allergy, respiratory diseases are cured. Diseases of the throat like tonsils, thyroid are cured. Blood is purified and the body gets rid of foreign objects & toxins. Very good for meditation and memory enhancement.

     

    How to do Bhastrika Pranayama - Breathe in through both the nostrils forcefully, till the lungs are full & diaphragm is stretched. Breathe out forcefully but take care that the abdominal cavity does not blow up due to the air breathed in. Bhastrika Pranayama can be done in 3 variable speeds slow speed, moderate speed & at the high speed. People with weak lungs & heart should do this at a slow speed, while performing inhaling & exhaling. A healthy person should do it initially at a slow speed & then gradually increase the speed to moderate & then high.

      Duration - Do bhastrika pranayama for five min.

          Kapalbhati Pranayama


           

          Benefits of Kapal Bhati pranayama - Weight loss, Obesity Cure, weight in the abdominal region reduces considerably. Cures constipation, gastric troubles, acidity, diabetes, Asthma & Respiratory troubles. Cures diseases pertaining to kidneys, Liver & prostate glands. Cures depression & negative thoughts. You get glowing face. Sinus & Allergies are cured. Diseases of heart, lungs & brain gets cured. Blockages in the arteries are also cleared. Organs in the abdominal cavity such as stomach, pancreas, liver and intestine function more efficiently & develop immunity towards diseases. It also reduces cholesterol.

             

            How to do Bhastrika Pranayama Breathe in normally & breathe out forcefully. While exhaling concentrate on your breathes taking away all your diseases. In the process of exhaling the abdominal area also makes inward & outward movements.  Do not stress on inhaling process so breath in normally after each forceful exhale. Do kapalbhati pranayama in a way like you clean your nose forcefully.

              Duration - Do kapal bhati pranayama for 5 min. & take rest for a while & resume again. Practice it for 15 min. daily in morning or evening.

              Precautions - Those who are suffering from Heart diseases should do it slowly while exhaling.

                  Anuloma Viloma Pranayama


                   

                  Benefits of Anuloma Viloma pranayama - Negative thinking is replaced by positive thoughts. Its calms your mind and help in meditation. Cleanses all innumerable Nadis, which makes the body healthy lustrous & strong. Cures rheumatism, gout, arthritis, diseases pertaining to urinary & reproductive organs are cured. It cures all respiratory diseases such as asthma, snoring & sinus. Cures diseases like cold, cataract etc. Blockages in the arteries of the heart are removed & arteries become clean. It prevents heart attack, pathogenic cholesterol, triglycerides.

                     

                    How to do Anuloma Viloma pranayama  This pranayama is to be done by closing the nostrils one after another. Close the right side nostril with the right hand thumb and inhale slowly through the left nostril till the lungs are filled with fresh air. Close the left nostril with the second & third fingers & open the right nostril & exhale through it. Then keep closing the left nostril and inhale through your right nostril, then closing your right nostril exhaling from the left nostril. Repeat this exercise slowly in beginning & increase the speed with practice. After a good long time practice inhale with as much force as possible, then exhale also forcefully. While doing this Pranayama mentally chant the mantra OM throughout the exercise of Pranayama.

                      Duration - Anulom Vilom Pranayama should be done for 5 - 10 min. daily.

                          Bharamari Pranayama


                           

                          Bharamari pranayama benefits - Practicing Bharamari pranayama make mind steady and you reach higher spiritual ground. You may experience divine light between your eyes while practicing this pranayama. It is beneficial in conditions like mental tension, agitation, high BP, heart disease, paralysis, migraine pain, lack of confidence and concentration, depression etc. It is also very useful for meditation.

                             

                            How to do Bharamari pranayama - Start with breathing in till your lungs are full with fresh air, then close your ears with both the thumbs & eyes with the middle fingers of your hands on respective sides with little pressure. Press forehead with both the index fingers lightly. Close both the eyes with the fingers as suggested above in the video. Then press eyes & nose bridge from the sides with the remaining fingers. Concentrate your mind between eyebrows. Close your mouth and Begin slowly exhaling, making humming sound of a bee, while chanting OM mentally. This exercise is to be done 11 - 21 times according to your own stamina.

                              Duration - Do this pranayama for 5 min. & then take rest in between if you feel.
