Expert's Advice:- Hello, Though yoga (combination of Yama, niyama, asana, prnayama) are indicated in menstruation cycle, there are certain asanas or poses and pranayama to be avoided. However there is modifications depending up on the age and fitness of the body and the flow of menstrual blood. The persons those who practice yoga regularly can minimize and modify these asanas. If the flow is in excess than normal, One can practice Baddha konasana, Upavistha Konasana, Virasana, Paschimottasana, Janu sirsana, and Uttanasana can be done. Avoid doing asanas like sarvanagasana, shirsasana etc. One can practice mild techniques of pranayama like Anuloma-viloma Pranayama and other techniques to be avoided like kapalabathi pranayama should not be done. If there is a menstrual cramps, vajrasana is indicated. Hence, one can practice only anuloma-viloma pranayama during menstrual periods. For any doubts, please feel free to contact us.
