JYOTISHMATI Botanical name : Celastrus paniculatus Willd. PLANT NAME IN DIFFERENT LANGUAGES Sanskrit: Jyotishmati, Tejovati, Bahuphala, Peetataila. English : Black oil tree, Climbing staff plant. Hindi : Malkangani, Malkunki, Malkangni, Sankheran, Mali, Kangni kavela. MEDICINAL PROPERTIES Useful part of Plant is roots and seeds. Celastrus paniculatus pacifies vitiated Vata and Kapha. Therapeutic uses of Celastrus paniculatus: Jyothismati is very useful to treat mental retardation, skin diseases associated with itching, asthma, hemiplegia, arthritis, insomnia, amnesia, urinary retention and nephritis. Pharmacological uses: Antihistaminic, Anticonvulsant, Antiprotozoal, Antiviral, Antipyretic, Antibacterial, Central muscle relaxant, Spasmolytic, Tranquilizer, Anti-inflammatory, Antifertility, Hypotensive etc. Medicines that contain Jyothismati are numerous, and that include oils for external application in Brihanmarichadya taila , Chitrakadi taila, Mahamarichadi taila etc. other medicines as Dosage: Seeds 1 - 2gm and oil 5 - 15 drops.
