VASA There are two varieties of VASA. Botanical name : Adhatoda beddomei and Adhatoda vasica Nees. SANSKRIT NAMES: Vasa, Vasaka, Vrishaka, Simhasya, Vishnu, Vrisha, Vajidanta, Adaroosha. PLANT NAME IN DIFFERENT LANGUAGES English : Malabar nut Hindi : Adusa, Arusa Malayalam : Adalotakam, Chittadalatokam and Peradalotakam. AYURVEDIC PROPERTIES Rasa : Tikta, Kashaya (Bitter) Guna : Lakhu, Rooksha (light and dry) Virya : Seeta (Cold potency) Vipaka: Katu (Pungent) MEDICINAL PROPERTIES Whole plant is useful and having medicinal values. Plant pacifies vitiated Kappha and Pitta. Formulations are helpful for cough, asthma, bronchitis and other respiratory illnesses. It is found effective in inflammation, bleeding disorders such as haemorrhage, haemorrhoids, eye diseases, diarrhea which is bleeding in nature. It is used mainly for respiratory tract disorders. Bronchitis: It is used with licorice and is very beneficial. VASA is having antihistamine effects, bronchodilator property and used in obstructive airway disease, emphysema, phthisis etc. Medicines: Vasavaleha, Vasaristham are examples.
