Tulsi, also known as tulasi is holy basil (Ocimum tenuiflorum) in English. This herb has lot of significance for health, especially in Asian countries like India. Tulsi possesses many medicinal properties and in Hinduism, the plant of basil is considered to be very holy and used in almost all regional rituals. The herbal part used of this plant is tulasi leaves, known as tulasipatra in Devnagari Language, the Sanskrit.

When the modern science fails with its contemporary medicines in tackling health ailments, especially viral originated, tulsi plays a significant role in relieving signs & symptoms of viral disease.

In Ayurveda, Tulasi is of two types depending on appearance such as SVETA and VANA.

TULASI (SVETA)

Botanical name : Ocimum sanctum Linn (White variety)

Family : Lamiaceae

Sanskrit: Tulasi, Surasa, Svetatulasi.

English : Holy basil, Sacred basil, White basil

Hindi : Tulsi

Malayalam : Tulasi, Velutta tulasi, Veluttatrittav.

AYURVEDIC PROPERTIES

Rasa : Kashaya, Tikta

Guna : Lakhu, Rooksha

Virya : Ushna

Useful part : Whole plant.

TULASI (VANA)

Description: Botanical name : Ocimum americanum Linn.

Family : Lamiaceae

SANSKRIT SYNONYMS: Vana tulasi, Aranya tulasi, Vanabarbarika.

English : Hoary basil

Hindi : Vantulsi

Malayalam : Kattutalasi, Kattutrittav

AYURVEDIC PROPERTIES

Rasa : Kashaya, Katu, Tikta

Guna : Lakhu, Rooksha

Virya : Ushna

Vipaka : Katu

Useful part : Leaves, Seeds.

Tulsi helps fighting swine flu

As per Swami Ramdev's formula take a foot long branch of Giloy herb (Tinospora cordifolia) and 7 leaf of Tulsi plant. Mix them together and extract juice of this mixture in a pot. Boil this juice and drink it. This extracted juice will increase body resistant & fight infection of swine flu.
